WHAT WE DO

Naval Shipbuilding and Advanced Manufacturing Center (NSAM), partners with industry experts and organizations to identify, develop, and facilitate the deployment of advanced manufacturing technologies to U.S. shipyards and other industrial facilities producing and supporting sustainment activities of naval platforms. NSAM leverages its expansive network of technical expertise to enable rapid identification and contracting to target unique and emerging technology fields. Specific technology focus areas include:

Model-based tools, processes, and approaches to optimize producibility and manufacturability in a digital manufacturing ecosystem (i.e. Digital Twin/Thread, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, ability to efficiently and effectively reuse and repurpose data for production/repair and sustainment.)

Intelligent manufacturing planning and factory execution

Elimination of inefficiencies in design optimization, material usage, labor utilization, workflow, by utilization of automation and robotics

Technologies in support of the digital manufacturing ecosystem

Techniques for the prediction and reduction of weld distortion
